1,000 Books Before Kindergarten

Ongoing Program

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten ongoing program encourages you to read 1,000 books to your child before he or she enters kindergarten. Just read three books a day for one year and it will add up to over 1,000 books! Stop by Youth Services to register your child and pick up a reading log! (R)

Camping Fiesta-Bilingual Storytime (Ages 3-7)

Thursday, June 2 • 2:00 p.m. 

Join us for camping stories and songs in both English and Spanish, a fun craft and a treat! (R)

 

Youth Summer Reading Club (Ages 0-14)

Saturday, June 4 - Saturday, July 30 

This Summer Reading Club's theme is Read for the Win. The first 100 to register receive movie tickets from Fox Lake Classic Cinema. The last day to register is July 32 and the last day to turn in completed forms is July 30. Read books, magazines, audios or playaways for a chance to win prizes. Those that finish receive a book of their choice and a small prize. Names then go into a grand prize drawing. Some of the grand prizes include: bicycles, an American Girl Doll, Star Wars Legos, Sport Barbies, Sports games and gift cards to GameStop. (R)

 

Drop-In and Get Crafty: Read for the Win (All Ages)

Saturday, June 4 • 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. 

After signing up for the Summer Reading Club during its kickoff, celebrate by stopping in the Activity Room to create your own "Read for the Win" themed craft! (NR)

 

Jeanie B! Live Music Concert (All Ages)

Saturday, June 4 • 11:00 a.m. - 11:50 a.m. in Meeting Room

Jeanie B, winner of Parents Choice Awards and Billboard Magazine's top honors, will help kick off our summer reading program, Read for the Win. Come ready for fun with music and more. (R)

 

The Amazing Gary Magic Show (All Ages)

Saturday, June 4 • 2:00 p.m. - 2:45 p.m. in Meeting Room

Panera Storytime (Ages 0-6)

Monday, June 6 • 9:30 a.m. at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach

Join us for stories, milk and cookies at Panera Bread in Round Lake Beach on Rollins Road. (NR)

 

Preschool Picasso (Ages 3-5)

Tuesday, June 7 • 11:30 a.m.

Bring your preschooler for hands-on arts and crafts! Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock. (R)

 

Plant Pals (Ages 5 and up)

Wednesday, June 8 • 10:00 a.m.

Plant some flowers and seeds for our library courtyard. Bring home a plant for your garden. STEM program. Wear your gardening clothes and bring a small shovel or trowel to dig. (R)

 

Robin's Dog Stars (All Ages)

Wednesday, June 8 • 1:00 p.m.

Robin Bengston and her dog stars will show us some great dog tricks and dog races, and how dogs read with their noses. (R)

 

LEGO Robotics: Dancing Birds (Ages 9 and up)

Wednesday, June 8 • 3:00 p.m.

With our WeDo LEGO Construction Sets and software, you will be able to build and program your project. Meet in the main level computer room in the Adult Services Department. (R)

 

Pizza! (Ages 5-8)

Wednesday, June 8 • 6:00 p.m.

This program is all things pizza with stories, a craft, and even the real thing! (R)

 

Toddler Art (Ages 12-24 months)

Tuesday, June 14 • 11:30 a.m.

Toddlers learn through all 5 senses! Bring your little one for fun hands-on, sensory activities to learn about and interact with the world around them. Each session will have a different theme. Make sure to dress in clothes you don't mind getting messy or bring a smock! (R)

 

The Write Idea: Youth Creative Writing Club (Ages 8-12)

Tuesday, June 14 • 4:00 p.m.

The Write Idea club returns! Be a part of our youth creative writing meet-up! We'll have fun using our imaginations to come up with stories that will spark our creativity and build our writing skills. There will be different writing activities, so meet others who enjoy writing and have a nice snack! (R)

 

Veggie Garden Time (Ages 5 and up)

Wednesday, June 15 • 10:00 a.m.

It's time to plant tomatoes, peppers, sunflowers, milkweed for butterflies, and much more. Planting will be by the garden patch in front of the library (next to the courtyard stairs). Meet downstairs at the Youth Reference Desk. Wear comfortable clothes and bring a small trowel or shovel. Be part of this green program as we watch our garden grow! STEM program. (R)

 

Christine Thornton Presents: Minecraft Art (Ages 7-10)

Wednesday, June 15 • 1:00 p.m. in Meeting Room

Christine Thornton shows us how to draw those popular Minecraft characters. (R)

 

There are Bees in the Library! (Ages 5-7)

Thursday, June 16 • 2:00 p.m. in Meeting Room

We are being invaded by robot bees! With these bees, you will be able to program them to move and go through mazes. Come and join the bee fun! (R)

 

Kids Movie Night (All Ages)

The Great Scott, a magician for all seasons, will entertain us with an interactive magic show with a light focus on sports. Families invited. (R)

Join us for the current fad sweeping the nation: coloring! Art supplies will be provided along with cookies and lemonade. Feel free to bring your own markers, colored pencils, etc. (R)

Celebrate Garfield the Cat's Creator, Jim Davis (Ages 7-10)

Thursday, July 28 • 6:00 p.m.

Come celebrate this lasagna-loving cat's creator, Jim Davis, on his birthday! We'll be reading and watching all things Garfield while learning a little bit about the famous cartoonist behind this lovable cat. A Garfield-approved sweet treat will be provided. (R)

Come in to watch a movie. While you are here, bring your DS, 2DS, or 3DS to play your Pokemon games against others or even bring in your Pokemon cards to play or showoff. (NR)
